Who's #Chekutty?

Chekutty is your story teller.

Chekutty can adore your wall, your bag, your car, key chain, your dress, trousers, trolleys or be an installation at home. Chekutty is to tell the story of this flood, it's heroes, valour, and togetherness in which we overcame the flood and landslides.

Chekutty should remind us the heights we could scale with our humanity and compassion.

“ചേക്കുട്ടി”.
Chekutty has scars.
Chekutty has stains.
But Chekutty is each one of us who survived the floods.
A mascot of the emerging Kerala, being rebuilt through our solidarity, resilience and beauty of hearts, despite some of the stains and scars that will remain.
At the flood devastated Chennamangalam weaving units, the only option for the weavers were to burn their severely damaged and soiled stock which could’nt be fixed even by dry cleaning .
That's when we stepped in to give it a new lease of life in a form that will also help raise funds greater than the original stock to help these units revive their unique art.
The damaged fabric is now dolls that every house can own as a reminder of sacrifices and resurrection during these trying times.
Every cloth is chlorinated and boiled in water to disinfect and safe to use.
Each doll is Chekutty- our Chendamangalam kutty!

PS: please note that all proceeds from the sale of chekutty will be contributed towards livelihood programs of weavers at the cooperative society.
